Tenacious: A Zine of Art & Writing by Women in Prison

    notyourkinddear:

If you don’t know of the work Vikki Law is doing, you should. If you care about women in prison and their voices being represented in discussions of prison abolition etc., you should check out this zine. If you want to know about the struggles that women go thru in prison, what prison is really like, and how women prisoners resist, you should check out this zine. It includes original artwork, letters, and other writing by women in prison. Often their work has had to be smuggled out. It also includes addresses for these women so that you can write to them.

To get a copy of the latest issue (#19), send $2 in well-concealed cash or a check made out to V. Law, PO Box 20388 New York, NY 10009

Reblogging (thanks strugglingtobeheard!) because I believe this is just THAT important.

  2. I don’t write names in my letters, which is usually fine, but I’ve written like three letters at the same time….and then had to check everytime I continued writing them to make sure it was one continuous letter and that I hadn’t suddenly started writing to someone else instead. I also had to read through them all again before addressing the envolopes. From now on I’m going to use names, it’s far easier!

HAVE COUCH - WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA

    transhousingnetwork:

I’m a gender fluid, queer person, in my 30s. I live in a big house with four other room mates, three cis women and a cis man, all in their 20s, some queer, white and mixed race. This is a pretty great, anti-oppressive space and there are lots of trans and non-binary folks who hang out regularly. We’re sex-positive, poly and kink friendly.

We have a couple of couches and could probably dig up an air mattress, too. If you need a place to crash for a few days we’d be happy to host you. Anything longer we can talk about and we can also connect you to other resources.

Our house is located in West Broadway - we’re very close to lots of major bus routes and walking distance from the Village, the Exchange, Wolseley, U of W etc. I have a truck and could provide some limited transportation if you can pay for gas.

I think the house is technically wheelchair accessible (it has a ramp) but is far from ideal, and I’d prefer to host you on the second floor. We could probably accommodate you in an emergency but getting around the house might prove to be really difficult.

We can feed you a bit, mostly vegetarian, but if you can bring or chip in for food that’d be great.

Alcohol and other substances done responsibly are cool. Any smoking will have to be done outside.

We have two cats, and probably can’t accommodate any more animals, but I may be able to help you make arrangements for temporary pet housing.

I can help connect you with organizations and resources for living on next to nothing, too.

If you say “white people” disparagingly, I will say “black people” disparagingly.
